Are You Holding Your Joy Back? (And What Happens When You Stop)
Are You Holding Your Joy Back? How to Be Seen, Lead with Joy and Allow More Abundance
There comes a point in any inner journey where things begin to shift.
At first, it’s about awareness. You start noticing what feels heavy, what no longer fits, what you’ve been carrying that you don’t actually want to carry anymore.
Then it becomes about reconnection. You begin to feel glimpses of yourself again. Moments of lightness, presence, maybe even Joy that feels surprisingly accessible.
And if you stay with that long enough, something else starts to emerge.
A quieter, but more confronting question:
Am I actually letting myself be seen in this?
Because this is where things change.
It’s one thing to feel more like yourself internally. It’s another to let that version of you be visible in your life.
And this is where a lot of people pause.
Not because they don’t want Joy, but because being seen in your Joy can feel unfamiliar. For many of us, it’s actually more comfortable to be seen in our effort, our growth, even our struggle, than it is to be seen in our aliveness.
Joy doesn’t always feel “safe” if you’re used to holding everything together.
So instead, we soften privately, we reconnect internally, but we don’t fully let it move through how we speak, how we show up, how we take up space.
We hold it back just enough to stay comfortable.
But here’s the truth.
Your Joy is not just for you.
Not in a performative way, and not in a way that requires you to be “on” all the time, but in the sense that your Joy naturally impacts the spaces you’re in.
When you are more present, more open, more expressed, people feel it.
They soften.
They breathe differently.
They remember something in themselves.
This is what I mean when I talk about Joy leadership.
It’s not about having answers or trying to change people. It’s about the quality of your presence and what becomes possible around you because of it.
And that kind of leadership doesn’t come from effort.
It comes from allowing yourself to be seen.
So a simple place to start is this:
Where are you holding your Joy back right now?
Where are you filtering yourself, shrinking slightly, or waiting until it feels more “solid” before you let it be visible?
What would it look like to let 5% more of that come through?
Not everything. Not all at once.
Just a little more honesty.
A little more openness.
A little more of you.
Because readiness doesn’t come before expression.
Expression is what creates readiness.
And if you’re feeling that this is becoming something more than personal, if you can sense that your Joy is meant to ripple outward and impact others, there are spaces where you can explore that.
You don’t have to do it alone.
You don’t have to figure it all out.
You just have to stop holding it back.
