You Might Already Be Leading More Than You Think

embodied joy joy leadership personal development

There’s a point in personal growth where things start to shift in a subtle but important way.

At first, the focus is internal.
You’re becoming more aware of yourself.
What you’re feeling.
What no longer fits.

And that work matters.

But if you stay with it, something else begins to emerge.

You start to notice how your presence impacts other people.

Not in a dramatic way, but in small, meaningful moments.

Someone feels more at ease around you.
A conversation goes deeper than expected.
You hold space without trying to fix anything.

And afterward, something feels different.

This is where many people overlook what’s actually happening.

Because it doesn’t look like leadership in the traditional sense.
There’s no title, no clear role, or formal recognition, so it’s easy to dismiss.

But this is often where leadership really begins.

Not in what you do, but in how you are.

It’s not about being on a stage or at the front of a room. It’s about how you show up for yourself and for others.

The way you listen.
The way you stay present.
The way you allow people to be themselves without pressure.

That kind of presence has impact.

And most people underestimate it.

They assume leadership requires more confidence, more certainty, or more experience before they can step into it.

But the truth is, you don’t need to have everything figured out to begin leading in this way.

You just need to be willing to honour yourself, be real, stay present, and care.

I’d love to share a beautiful example of this.

One of our Certified Joy Facilitators, who is over 70 years young, began sharing this work within her seniors community.

Not from a place of trying to lead in a traditional way. Not from a place of having to prove anything.

But simply through how she shows up.

And what’s been happening is incredible.

People are opening up. Conversations are deepening. There’s more connection, more presence, more lightness.

Not because she’s doing more.

But because she’s being who she is and very simply sharing her gifts with others in ways that feel aligned for her.

And that’s what creates the shift.

So a simple question to sit with is this:
Where are you already having an impact that you haven’t fully acknowledged?

Because recognition matters. Not in an ego-driven way. But in a way that allows you to take ownership of how you show up.

And when you do that, something shifts.
You become more intentional, grounded and aware of the role you naturally play in the spaces you’re in.

That’s where leadership expands.
Not by force. But by awareness.

And this is where the possibilities begin to expand exponentially…
