Because You Only Live Once: The Joy of Laughter

healthy mindset

Sometimes Joy comes from deep reflection, soulful connection, or quiet moments of gratitude. And sometimes, it comes from a big, unapologetic belly laugh. The kind that makes your cheeks hurt, your stomach ache, and your heart feel wide open.

This week, I’m leaning into laughter as medicine. In fact, I’m heading to Calgary to see one of my all-time favourite comedians, Jo Koy, with my brother and his girlfriend—because you only live once! Comedy has always been one of my favourite ways to reset, and Jo Koy never fails to deliver the kind of laughter that feels like a full-body cleanse.

The Medicine of Laughter

Laughter is healing. It shifts energy, lightens burdens, and reminds us not to take life too seriously. Often, before bed, I’ll watch a comedian or silly video—because sometimes what we need most is to let go and laugh. It doesn’t have to be complicated. A moment of lightness can feel like a spiritual reset.

When the world feels heavy (and let’s be honest, it often does), laughter can be a radical act of Joy. It’s an invitation to let light in, to soften, and to remember that Joy doesn’t always need to be deep or profound. Sometimes it’s simply about delighting in the absurd, the silly, or the playful.

How to Invite More Laughter Into Your Life

Here are a few ideas to spark more laughter this week:

  • Call a friend who always makes you giggle
  • Watch a silly movie or binge your favourite comedy special
  • Laugh at your own jokes (I do this often—HA!)
  • Share a funny memory with someone you love

Remember: laughter doesn’t just feel good, it’s good for you. It’s a spiritual experience, a nervous system reset, and one of the simplest ways to reconnect to Joy.

What makes you belly laugh? Where could you invite more fun into your life this week? Choose one thing that makes you laugh, and make space for it. Let yourself laugh hard and often. You deserve it.
