Celebrating 10 Years Sober

homecoming sober life

Ten years ago, I made a choice that changed everything. A decade later, I’m celebrating not just sobriety, but the life of Joy, purpose, and possibility that grew from that one decision.

This isn’t just my story—it’s a reminder that no matter where you are, you too can come home to yourself.

From Chaos to Clarity

Ten years ago, I was stuck in a cycle of suffering… obsessing over how much or how little I’d drink when I went out. Promising myself I’d drink more water, maybe not drink at all.

And then, like clockwork, waking up in shame, wondering what I’d said or done the night before. I was in a cycle of shame and disconnection.

It was exhausting. It was awful. And… it was also what allowed me to choose a new way.

Choosing a New Way

Sobriety gave me the chance to come back to myself.

Instead of numbing, I started feeling. Instead of spiralling, I began practicing presence. Instead of shrinking, I expanded into the fullness of who I truly am.

Today, my life feels sturdy, connected, and full of possibility. Where there used to be chaos and disconnection, there’s presence, peace, and purpose.

It’s not perfect, and honestly, I know that’s not the point. I will continue to get opportunities to come back home and practice Joy because that’s what it’s all about!

What Sobriety Taught Me About Joy

Here’s what I’ve learned in ten years of walking this path:

  • Joy is always available. Even when you feel disconnected, you can choose to come back home.
  • Change begins with honesty. The moment you’re brave enough to pause and tell yourself the truth, everything shifts.
  • You don’t have to do it alone. Community, love, and support are what make the journey sustainable—and even magical.

An Invitation to You

If you’re reading this and feeling far from yourself, please know—I get it. That distance can feel impossible to bridge. But it isn’t.

You can always choose differently. You can always come back home.

Maybe for you it’s not about sobriety. Maybe it’s about slowing down, choosing rest, honouring your needs, or finally saying yes to the dream that’s been tugging at your heart.

Whatever it is—this is your reminder: You get to create a life that feels good on your own terms.

Let’s Celebrate Together

I’m celebrating 10 years sober, and I’m also celebrating every single person who chooses to practice Joy in their own way.

And now, I’d love to hear from you:

  • What’s one choice you’re ready to make that will bring you closer to yourself?
  • How can you invite more Joy into your life this week?
