The Truth Behind The Joy I Share On Stage

homecoming

October is a full month for me. I get to share the message of Joy on two incredible stages: the Stollery Children’s Hospital fundraising event and Trailblazer Live.

It’s an honour to be trusted with a microphone and the hearts of an audience. Every time I step onto a stage, I am deeply aware of the responsibility that comes with it. I want to serve well. I want to share from the heart. I want people to leave feeling inspired, uplifted, and connected to their own Joy.

But here’s the truth: I couldn’t do any of this without my own grounding practices.

Behind The Curtain Of Joy

When you see someone standing confidently on a stage, it’s easy to assume they’ve got it all together. But the reality is, the nerves are real. The full calendar is real. The weight of wanting to make a difference is very real. And honestly, behind the scenes, life is often even REALER (if that’s a word;)

What allows me to show up with presence and authenticity is not a lack of fear. It’s not having “everything under control.” It’s the fact that I’ve learned to return, again and again, to my Daily Joy Ritual.

This practice is what steadies me. It’s what brings me back to my why when my schedule feels overwhelming. It’s what keeps my energy rooted and my words aligned with truth.

Joy is what keeps me grounded when the spotlight feels the brightest.

What A Daily Joy Ritual Really Looks Like

A Daily Joy Ritual doesn’t need to be complicated or time-consuming. It doesn’t require expensive tools or hours of preparation. What it does require is presence, intention, and a willingness to show up for yourself.

Here are a few examples of how I ground myself through Joy:

  • Moments of stillness. Taking time for meditation or deep breathing before a big day.
  • Simple nourishment. Drinking lemon water or tea slowly and intentionally.
  • Movement as medicine. Stretching, walking, or dancing to shake off nerves and reset energy.
  • Connection to nature. Stepping outside, feeling the air on my skin, and remembering that I am part of something bigger.
  • Journaling my why. Writing down why I am speaking, who I want to serve, and how I want them to feel.

Each of these practices helps me feel rooted, authentic, and ready to show up fully.

Why Grounding Through Joy Matters

Grounding practices are not just for people speaking on stage. They are for all of us - whether you’re navigating a busy job, raising a family, building a business, or simply trying to meet the demands of everyday life.

When we ground ourselves through Joy, we stop reacting from fear and start responding from clarity.

We connect with our deeper why.
We show up as our most vibrant selves.

So I want to ask you: What helps you to show up the way you desire?
