This Valentine’s, Let’s Talk About True Self-Love

With Valentine’s Day approaching, I’ve been thinking about a quieter, more honest kind of self-love.

Not the kind that asks you to push harder.
Not the kind that says “just be positive.”
Not the kind that ignores what isn’t working.

True self-love begins with honesty.

It looks like noticing what isn’t feeling 100%, without shame and self-criticism.

We can only show up fully for others when we are showing up fully for ourselves.

And that doesn’t mean doing more! It means listening more.

Self-love, the aligned way, sounds like:

In your relationships
It’s noticing when you’re over-giving or over-explaining.

It’s admitting when a yes has quietly become a no.
It’s choosing honest conversations over quiet resentment.
It’s letting yourself be supported, not just strong.

In your career and work
It’s paying attention to what drains you versus what lights you up.
It’s refining how you spend your time and energy.
It’s choosing alignment over approval.
It’s allowing your work to support your life, not consume it.

In your home and daily life
It’s changing your pace when your body feels tired.
It’s creating space that feels calming instead of chaotic.
It’s honouring the season you’re in instead of fighting it.
It’s choosing ease where you’ve been gripping.

Self-love is listening when something feels heavy.
It’s pausing when something feels off.
It’s responding instead of overriding or avoiding.

In the spirit of alignment, self-love asks: What is this feeling trying to show me?

Because when something feels off, it’s not a problem to solve. It’s information.

And being willing to shift, refine, or renegotiate your life in response to that information is one of the most loving things you can do for yourself. This is the kind of love that builds trust with yourself.

Alignment is self-love in action. BOOM!

So today, instead of asking how you can do more for yourself perhaps you could ask instead: how do I listen more deeply?
